Sue Borgerson: For Love of Kayla – Part 1
Take 25 minutes over lunch to feed your soul!
Sue Borgerson lives in Lakeville, Minnesota, with her husband. She has three children. Her two younger children were in a car accident in 2008. Thankfully, her youngest survived and is doing well. Sadly, her middle child, Kayla, did not survive the accident. Kayla donated organs, eyes, and tissue. Since then, Sue has presented to driver’s ed classes, rotary clubs, and health professionals about the importance of donation. She is also the chapter leader for Compassionate Friends in the southern suburbs of the Twin Cities. Compassionate Friends is an international, non-profit organization helping parents, grandparents and siblings cope as bereaved families.
In Part 1 of their conversation, Nada and Sue discuss:
- How Sue was able to go on and thrive after losing her 18-year-old daughter, Kayla, in a car accident that involved both Kayla and Sue’s other daughter, Katie.
- How the loss of Kayla affected Katie then and now.
- The heart-shattering conversation Sue had with Kayla in the hospital.
- How grief affects us all differently.
Key takeaways:
- How a family can go on living without a family member who has crossed over.
- Numbness and shock is there to help us through the darkest times.
- We move through the pain and grief with faith, family, and friends, in that order.
- We become caretakers for each other while we are navigating the loss of a loved one.
